Compact RS-232 detection and switching module
Serial module with 8 optocoupler inputs and 8 switch-on relays
With the BS-SER-O8-R8, the new BS line, DEDITEC is expanding its range of PC-controlled control and regulation modules. The BS-SER-O8-R8 offers users 8 galvanically isolated optocoupler inputs for signal acquisition and 8 switch-on relays for controlling external circuits.
The serial interface allows the module to be addressed directly via DELIB (driver library and API) as well as our RS232 protocol. By using our protocol, users are not tied to the Windows or Linux operating systems, but can develop with any system that supports RS232.
This very compact module, measuring 105 x 102.5 x 74.5 mm (L x W x H), is designed for mounting on a DIN rail, making it easy to install in a control cabinet. The power supply (7-24 V DC) must be provided externally via a power supply unit.
Inputs
The input channels of the BS-SER-O8-R8 are designed for a signal voltage of 15V – 30V as standard. The customer has the option of changing the signal voltage to a range of 5V to 15V without opening the module housing.
Counter
Each input channel has a 16-bit counter. This allows the module to count events as well.
Detection of fast input pulses
The module does not miss any fast state changes at the inputs, even if the inputs are polled at long intervals. Fast state changes between two readout cycles are detected by additional logic and can be read out separately via software. Such a “state change” is signaled (for all inputs together) by an LED. The LED only goes out again when the software registers for the input state change have been read out.
Outputs
The module’s outputs are implemented via galvanically isolated switch-on relays. The maximum switching voltage is 36V AC/DC (max. 1A, 10W).
This module is also available in a version with 3A relays (90W). The item number for this item is BS-SER-O8-R8_3A.
Integrated timeout output protection
The integrated timeout protection switches off all outputs in the event of a communication failure. This ensures that if the module cannot be addressed within a predefined period of time, the connected devices do not continue to operate uncontrollably. The timeout protection must first be activated via software and is then implemented by hardware. This prevents, for example, a motor from continuing to run if the PC crashes.
Software
The extensive Windows driver library (DELIB) enables uniform and very simple control of the modules in almost all available programming languages, such as C/C++, Visual Basic, Delphi, C#, VB.net, Java, LabView, ProfiLab, or Licht24. At the same time, numerous ready-made configuration and test programs are available to the customer after installation of the DELIB.
