Ethernet Module with 2 Inputs for Incremental Encoders

The company DEDITEC from Brühl presents its new incremental encoder module RO-ETH-CNT/IGR2. This module provides 2 inputs for incremental encoders.

With the RO-ETH-CNT/IGR2, users can detect linear position changes (distance and direction) or rotational angle changes (angle and direction). Detection is handled via the connected incremental encoders. The encoders evaluate pulse count, pulse frequency, and phase position to determine displacement, speed, and direction.

A unique feature of this module is the inclusion of limit switches. These allow for reference movements to be defined, during which a specific position is reached — enabling very accurate calibration of the encoder. The advantage here is that the absolute position can still be correctly recognized even after restarting the module.

The RO-ETH-CNT/IGR2 offers 3 differential inputs (Phi 0, Phi 90, and Reset) per encoder. A key benefit is that both incremental encoders can be powered directly via the module (5V, 500mA).

In addition, the module features LEDs that visually indicate the status and rotation direction of each encoder. This real-time feedback helps identify wiring issues much more quickly.

The compact module, measuring 126 mm x 126 mm x 31 mm (L x W x H), includes a DIN rail mounting bracket for easy installation in control cabinets or sub-distribution boxes. Power is supplied externally via a power adapter (7–24 V DC).

The RO-ETH-CNT/IGR2 is available in dual-increment configurations. This allows scalable solutions for 4, 6, 8, or more incremental encoder inputs.

Software

The comprehensive Windows driver library (DELIB) enables consistent and very simple integration of the module into nearly all popular programming languages, including C/C++, Visual Basic, Delphi, C#, VB.NET, Java, LabView, ProfiLab, and Licht24.

After installing the DELIB, customers also gain access to a wide range of pre-configured setup and test applications.
