The COS-DIO8 is a CANopen module with 8 digital inputs and outputs. It can be operated as a stand-alone device as well as in combination with several COS modules.
Due to the CANopen profiles according to the CiA® specification CiA 301, CiA 305 and CiA 401, this module is ideally suited for almost all applications in modern automation technology.

Digital outputs

PROFET 3A

High Side Power Switches are used as digital output. They are suitable for switching capacities up to 3A DC and are practically wear-free. They are also protected against overcurrent and overtemperature.


Digital inputs

The digital inputs were realized with OP amplifiers. Herewith you can measure voltage levels from 3,3V to 36V DC. The switching threshold can be determined by applying an external reference voltage.


Configuration

The baud rate (up to 1Mbit/s) and the node number of the module can be configured via coding switches. Alternatively, this configuration can also be carried out conveniently via LSS using a CANopen master in the bus.

The transmission can be optionally event-controlled, cyclic or synchronous. Thus, for example, digital input statuses can be sent to other BUS participants every second and additionally in the event of an input status change.

Dynamic PDO mapping also allows different types of measurement data to be sent in one PDO (e.g. analog and digital states).

Other nodes in the bus can be monitored via the heartbeat protocol. Each node cyclically sends a CAN message (heartbeat). If the message of a node is missing, e.g. due to a connection termination, this error is registered by the module and can switch an alarm, for example.


Easy installation thanks to DIN rail bus

Thanks to the practical COS bus connector, which is clipped into the top-hat rail, individual modules within a network can be very easily added or exchanged. CAN communication and the power supply is passed on to all connected modules via the DIN rail bus.


LEDs

At the front side of our COS modules there is a row of status LEDs. These give you a quick overview of the most important functions of the modules, such as the switching states of the individual I/Os, module status or whether clean communication via the DIN rail bus is possible. This can be very helpful for fast error analysis, especially for field applications.


Connectors

A screwless system from the manufacturer WAGO Kontakttechnik is used as the connector. The 1-wire female connectors are 100% protected against mismating and have an eject and locking mechanism. All conductor types up to 1.5mm² can be connected.

Configuration

Configuration of CANopen modules

The CANopen interface is configured via three rotary coding switches located on the front of the module.

The upper and middle rotary coding switches determine the Node ID, the lower one the baud rate.


Rotary coding switch

In this example the operating mode is CANopen, the bit rate is 250 kBit/s and the node ID is 0x24.

 

The upper rotary coding switch determines the more significant bits and the middle switch the less significant bits.

The lower rotary coding switch is used to set the baud rate, the following is a list of all settings:

Control of CANopen modules

 

The CANopen modules are configured via the module’s CANopen bus.


 

EDS

Select the EDS file of your module to load all registers required for the controller.


Read register

The tab “Device Profile Segment” contains all registers to control the module.

In register 0x6200 it is possible to write or read the states of the relays.

In the example the state of the first 8 relays is read.

Screwless connector system

The customer’s connection wiring of the inputs and outputs is carried out via screwless, pluggable terminal strips. The conductor connection is made by a so-called actuating tool.
A locking and ejection mechanism facilitates the insertion and removal of the complete terminal strip.

 

Handling

Step 1

Remove the operating tool from the scope of delivery.

Step 2

Insert the operating tool firmly into the side opening in the direction of conductor connection.

Step 3

Now insert the stripped conductor into the open terminal contact.

Schritt 4

Pull the operating tool out again.

Step 5

Check the correct connection of the conductor. It should now no longer be possible to pull it out easily.

8-times relay powermodule (switching capacity 40V/10A), which can be controlled by relays/opto-couplers

The MOD-REL8_10A has eight changeover relays with a switching capacity of 48V/10A AC or 48V/8A DC. It can be used as additional power stage for our digital output modules. The normally open contacts of a digital output module, e.g. a RO-USB-REL16, are simply connected in parallel to the inputs of this power stage. Additionally this module requires a power supply of 24V DC.
